Shakespeare’s tale of magic, love, and retribution gets an enchanting, “high fantasy” makeover in this new adaptation. Prospero, a powerful sorceress, sets a plan in motion twelve years in the making, wrecking a royal ship upon the shores of her island and beginning her game of “chess”. The players: the ruler of Naples and her daughter; Prospero’s conniving sister; punch-drunk nobles; two spirits of nature; and even her own child, Miranda. The goal: to set right the wrongs of the past in hopes of giving her daughter a brighter future. In a thrilling re-exploration of the text, with sorcery and motherhood at its core, this production utilizes both the original prose and poetry, as well as dance and movement, to bring this classic faerie tale to life.
